Plateau State Govt.Set To Receive N6.6BN Refund From Federal Govt.

By, giwa alex, Jos

It was cheering news to the people of Plateau especially when the news filtered in the state is getting a refund of N6, 601,769,470.99 from the Federal Government.

This is contained in a statement dated 6th February 2023 ,signed by the Director of the Directorates of Media and Publicity Atiku-Okowa Mutfwang-Piyo Campaign Council, Pastor Yiljap Abrahim, and made available to this medium in Jos, plateau state.

According to the Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola after the Federal Executive Council approved the reimbursement on Wednesday 1st February 2023.

“For road projects executed on behalf of the federal government.”

Speaking after the meeting, the Minister explained  that the refunds “were necessary.”

Six-point-Six billion Naira is no small amount for a state that is struggling with a staggering debt and a very uncomplimentary poverty score among 36 other states.

We are aware that last December, a federal team from Abuja visited the state and inspected some selected projects from Jos North to Langtang South. It would appear that PDP completed projects are also included among those that made up the package that have been qualified for the refund.

It is for this administration to disclose to the people of Plateau the projects that have made the refunds “necessary” as claimed by the Hon Minister of Works and Housing.

We find it also absolutely curious that the ruling party is ecstatically praising the governor for “the payment of backlog of workers’ salaries and for being up to date in the payment of pension to retired civil servants in the sate.”

The APC state Chairman in a statement said the party  “was delighted that inspite of the economic downturn being experienced by the country which has led to a drastic fall in  revenue allocation to the state, Governor Lalong has been able to fulfil his obligations to the workforce.”

This administration must be self-deluded! Does it really believe that Plateau workers are this cheap? Is this exiting administration saying that because it is throwing part of the N6.6bn at the workers they will take it, chop it, clean their mouths and gratefully vote for a party that has made suffering a second skin for them? Will Plateau workers forget that they are paid justly for their work and still go out and queue up for a party that has clumsily crafted a political philosophy of “chop make I chop”?

It’s such an upsetting piece of blackmail,  humiliation and manipulation!

If the payment of salaries is for the workers and pensioners to take note of and be favourably disposed towards February 25 and March 11, then APC’s vote hunters must prepare for the shock of their lives!

We are also amused by another reality that has come out of this frail administration since the refund was announced. Suddenly, the ruling party called a gathering and inaugurated the sixteen directorates of its campaign council! This was a subtle hint that “the kayan aiki (campaign money) has arrived, so you will be empowered to start the work now.” They are not campaigning on issues. Misery that has become the lot of the people?

They’ve been stuck in their trenches all this while. They will crawl out now only because there is what appears to them to be cheap money to buy the required votes in anyway possible. Plateau cannot go back this way. Never!

The reasonable expectation of the Atiku-Okowa,  Mutfwang-Piyo Campaign Council is that the Plateau State  government should quickly and dutifully release a clearly well-thought out plan on the priority areas that will justify spending this much needed money now.

Such areas should make positive impact on the lives of the already traumatised people who are daily groaning under an APC-induced fuel and Naira scarcity.

N6, 601,769,470.99 no be small money.

N6, 601,769,470.99 cannot and must not be APC’s campaign funds.

N6, 601,769,470.99 must upgrade the lives of the people of Plateau State.

APC Commends Gov. Lalong For Off Setting Worker’s Salaries And Pension.

By, giwa alex, Jos

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Plateau State Chapter, Hon Rufus Bature has commended the Plateau State Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong over the payment of backlog of workers’ salaries and for being up to date in the payment of pension to retired civil servants in the sate.

The APC Chairman said he is quite delighted by the confirmation by both the Honourable Commissioner of Finance  Mrs Regina Soemlat and the Accountant General of the state, Dr Cyril Tsenyil that the government has paid workers’ salaries and Third Party  deductions up to December 2022 while it is working earnestly to pay January very soon.

According to Hon Rufus Bature, as a mark of respect for senior citizens  who have served the state diligently and have retired,  the government,  under the Captain of the Rescue Administration, has been very prompt in paying their pensions.

The APC state Chairman was delighted that  inspict of the economic downturn being experienced by the country which has led to a drastic fall in  revenue allocation to the state, GoverLalong has been able to fulfil his obligations to the workforce.

Hon. Rufus Bature thanked the civil servants who are the engine room of government for their patience and understanding.

He charged them to reciprocate the gesture of the Governor by putting in their best in their various places of work.

It may be recalled that the Lalong administration on assumption of office in  May 2015, cleared the backlog of workers’ salaries left by his predecessor, for upward of six to seven months and had remained consistent in the payment of salaries as and when due, thus earning him the appellation of ‘Governor Alert’ by the workers.

The Desperation Of Atiku And Consequences To The North

By,Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba

It is so pathetic and hypocritical that the Atiku Abubakar that had consistently said the presidency was the turn of the north since 2014, has not bought his way to jettison the PDP zoning he had insisted must be followed when it was in favour of the north. And he as a northerner, Fulani and a Muslim is now desperately canvassing and plotting the possibility of taking over from another northerner Fulani who is also a Muslim man, without caring about the consequences to the north.

However, despite the fact that it’s obvious Atiku knows the consequences, but chose to ignore it due to his inordinate ambition; it’s important to clearly state that:

After eight (8) disastrous years of a northerner, Fulani who is also Muslim man; for another northerner Fulani and Muslim man to take over immediately will definitely result in the following:

1. A confirmation that the north assume they are the “born-to-rule” and other tribes are mere slaves or glorified second class citizens.

2. A total breakdown in anything that has to do with political alliance between the north and the south, which will clearly manifest in future elections.

3. Total collapse of trust between the north and the south, since it would have been so clear that despite the north holding to power more than the south during the military era, they have decided to play on the intelligence of the south during the democratic administration, using rotation as a tool when it favours them and jettisoning it when the rotation now favours the south.

4. Complete collapse of the rotational system resulting in avoidable unhealthy rivalry even in all major political parties in Nigeria.

5. The serious challenge that will bring about selfless and unbreakable alliance between the South East, South South and South West that will eventually results in the south also retaining power for minimum of sixteen (16) uninterrupted years or even more.

6. In summary it is obvious that Atiku Abubakar actually does not care about the political future and image of the northerners and has decided to sacrifice them on the altar of his desperation to achieve his inordinate ambition at all costs.

Just as a reminder, it was Atiku Abubakar who, when he insisted it was the turn of the north, quoted John F. Kennedy that, “those who make peaceful change impossible will make violent change inevitable.”

And in 2014 when former president Goodluck Jonathan was about to complete six years as a president and was seeking for one more term that he was constitutionally entitled to, Atiku Abubakar insisted it was the turn of the north. And he (Atiku) did all in his power to frustrate him (Jonathan) as he led five governors to storm out of Eagle Square. He then sponsored them to form New PDP (NPDP) before they moved to All Progressive Congress (APC) to support Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner to emerge as president in fulfilment of the turn of the north.

Again in 2109, Atiku insisted it was the still the turn of the north that the north is entitled to eight (8) uninterrupted years as president. Hence he offered himself to contest under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to serve the term of the north according to the constitution of PDP on power rotation. In agreement with the gentleman principle of power rotation between the north and the south, we massively supported Atiku Abubakar in 2019 to complete the tenure of the north. But his fellow Fulani man defeated him and continue to complete the eight (8) years for northerners.

Despite that it was the same Atiku Abubakar that was screaming that it was the turn of the north and the north had consistently occupied Aso Rock it in the last two administration; the same Atiku Abubakar has in 2022 used his dollar power to conner the leadership of PDP and bought over the delegates of PDP to still take PDP presidential ticket when it’s now the turn of the south.

The questions to ask Atiku Abubakar and all of the people promoting him are:

1. After eight (8) disastrous years of a northerner, Fulani man and a Muslim, are they assuming that the northerners remain the so called “born to rule”?

2. Are they insinuating that the Southerners are totally subdued slaves, especially the South East people that have not ruled Nigeria since the first Republic?

3. Do they want people to believe that there is no Southerner that is good enough to also be the president of Nigeria at this time?

4. If by mistake Atiku Abubakar, a Northerner, Fulani and a Muslim becomes the next president after eight (8) years of a northerner, Fulani and a Muslim; can there ever be political alliance between the north and south again; since the northerners would have succeeded in confirming the notion that they believe they are the “born-to-rule” while others are second class citizens?

In conclusion, it is now the turn of the south and precisely the South East that has not produced any president since the first republic. And the South East has credible candidate, a man of integrity who has vast understanding of the myriad of problems befalling Nigeria and how to tackle them towards the birth of a new nation.

Come onboard and let’s rescue our beloved country together through ballot revolution on Saturday 25th February, 2023. We can do it.

SIGNED:

Rev Emmanuel Olorunmagba,

Candidate for House of Representatives,

Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency

Of Kogi State.

The Governors told the President that, while they agreed that his decision on the renewal of currency was good and they are fully in support, its execution had been botched and their constituents were becoming increasingly upset.

They told the President that, as leaders of the government and party in their different states, they were becoming anxious about a slump in the economy and the series of elections that are coming. They requested the President to use his powers to direct the concurrent flourish of the new and old notes till the end of the year.

The President said when he considered giving the approval to the policy, he demanded an undertaking from the CBN that no new notes will be printed in a foreign country and they in turn gave him assurances that there was enough capacity, manpower and equipment to print the currency for local needs. He said he needed to go back to find out what was actually happening.

President Buhari told the Governors that, being closer to the people, he had heard their cries and will act in a way that there will be a solution.
