IPAC Condemns  Killing Of APC Publicity Secretary Sylvanus Namang In Plateau, Calls On Security To Fish -out The Perpetrator , Charged  State  Assembly  To Swear-In 16 Members In Obedient To Appeal  Court Judgement.

By, giwa alex, jos

Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC),in Plateau State has condemned in strong term the gruesome murder of  the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC),in Plateau State

And called on the security agent in the State to ensure the Perpetrator of the gruesome murder of the party’s stalwarts  are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

The condemnation  of the council is contained in a Press statement dated 22nd February 2024 signed by the Chairman of IPAC in the state Honourable Abubakar Dogara and made available to this medium.

He decried the level of insecurity in the country and Plateau State in particular where some devilish people can just take the live of fellow human beings without trace.

Add that the killing of the Publicity Secretary Sylvanus Namang in the state is another litmus test for the security agent   to unravel the Perpetrator of this heinous crime to face the full wrath of law.

IPAC advice the state government to look at the issue of insecurity in State, though is a national problems but Governor mutfwang led government have the capability to curtail it before it assumes dangerous dimension.

Called on the various political parties in State to avoid any insinuation and pointing of accusing fingers rather synergies and fight the criminals in their mist to sanitize the political space.

IPAC however sympathized with the All Progressive Congress APC, in Plateau, and by extension Nigeria as a whole and the family of the deceased Sylvanus Namang  pray for God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable lost.

In another  development,IPAC saddled with the responsibilities to maintain Peace and harmony within political parties , and settled disputes were they occured charged the speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dawan to swear in the 16 Members of the House of Assembly who where recently declared winners by the Appeal Court election Tribunal in Abuja.

This is necessary because since the Appeal Court Judgement that declared them the rightful winners, the  seats have been vacant which has grossly affected effective people oriented law making in the house occasioned by the Speaker of the house of Assembly disobedient to court Judgement to Swear-In the 16 Members in line with the Appeal judgement.

“IPAC want to sound it loud and clear that the part of fragrant disobedient of Court Judgement by the Speaker of the house is not with the support of Governor mutfwang who is a firm adherence to the rules  of law.”

By,giwa alex jos

Non Governmental Organization (NGO),under the aegis of Justice For Africa Campaign had commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the establishment of Almajiri and out of school children commission.

The commendation of the NGO is coming  during the celebration of one Year anniversary of the NGO,  JusticeForAfrica campaign, which is set for February 20th. The campaign involves civil society organizations, including 100 Million Nigeria, advocating for child rights and quality education for all.

They commend the efforts of the Federal Government (FG) in implementing the campaign’s goals and urge transparency and accountability within the Nigerian Ministry of Education and the commission’s chairman. Emphasizing transparency is crucial for building public trust and ensuring resources are effectively used to benefit those in need.

The establishment of the Almajiri And Out-of-School Children Commission by the Nigerian government is a significant move to address educational challenges faced by children, particularly Almajiri children and those marginalized and out of school. The commission’s primary objective is to offer better education and support to vulnerable children.

Given Nigeria’s current difficulties such as hunger and inflation levels, it is vital for the commission to extend its assistance to children in refugee camps. These children, among the most vulnerable, encounter additional obstacles in accessing education and basic needs. By engaging with these children, the commission can positively impact their lives and give them hope for a brighter future.

The Nigerian government’s actions through the commission are commendable steps in addressing marginalized children’s educational needs. It is essential for the commission to maintain transparency, accountability, and proactivity in reaching out to all children, especially those in refugee camps, during these challenging times.

The Justice For Africa campaign involves youth activists, student leaders, survivor-advocates, and their representative organizations from across the continent. Co-convened by the 100 Million campaign, a youth-led initiative aspiring for a world where all youth are free, safe, and educated, its mission includes ending violence against children, eradicating child labor, and ensuring education to break the cycles of illiteracy, poverty, and violence for good.

Youths In Plateau Allege Lalong Mastermind Rev. Yakubu Pam’s Removal.

By giwa alex,Jos

Youths on the aegis of”The Concerned Plateau Youths”has  alleged conspiracy by the Former  Governor Simon Bako Lalong that  he was the masterminder over the recent removal of the  Executive Christian Pilgrim Commission , Rev. Yakubu Pam  .

The Spokesman of the Concerned Group ,Ezekiel Dingfa statement was made available to journalists in Jos ,

He statement said, the concerned youths of Plateau State, are deeply disappointed by the recent appointment of Bishop Stephen Adegbite as the Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, replacing our very own Rev. Yakubu Pam. What has raised significant concerns among us is the timing and manner through which Former Governor Simon Bako Lalong  acted, as he hurriedly and personally congratulated Bishop Adegbite on his first day in office.

As Plateau youths, we cannot help but question whether there was a conspiracy to remove Rev. Yakubu Pam from his position and replace him with a loyalist of Former Governor Lalong.

We, as citizens of Plateau State, pride ourselves on our diversity and inclusivity. We strongly believe in the principle of fair representation and equal opportunities for all our citizens to serve and contribute to our state and national development.

That is why it is deeply troubling to witness the replacement of Rev. Yakubu Pam, a fellow Plateau citizen, with an individual who does not share the same background. While we acknowledge the federal government’s authority to make appointments, we also believe that the sentiments and aspirations of the people directly affected by these decisions should be taken into consideration.

The choice to replace Rev. Yakubu Pam with a loyalist raises concerns about fairness, representation, and the promotion of harmonious coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.

Hence, we, the Concerned Plateau Youths, strongly urge Former Governor Simon Bako Lalong who in the first instance didn’t like nor work for the emergence of the president but only reaped where he never sow ,unlike Rev. Yakubu Pam whose role during the election exceeds by far that of the former governor whose loyalty was and is still for Amaechi, from denying the president the right to address the plateau state party delegates to hiding them in a hotel to deny him access, until the political magic triggered by some Asiwaju die-hards on the plateau, the president wouldn’t have gotten a single vote from the state,a group Rev. Pam belongs.

We require other relevant authorities to provide us with an explanation for the apparent conspiracy that led to the removal of Rev. Yakubu Pam and his subsequent replacement with Bishop Adegbite.

We also want Senator Lalong to kindly explain to us why another Plateau Son was removed as Director General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and replaced with yet another Southwesterner.

It is painful that Senator Lalong as DG of the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Organization was not able to prevent the replacement of two federal positions that two Plateau sons held. Could it be that Senator Lalong was only working for himself? Could this be another reason why President Tinubu and the APC Lost in Plateau State at the polls? These and many more painful questions are begging for answers, because it appears to us that Senator Lalong is so far the Chief Plateau beneficiary of anything that has come from Aso Rock with no impact .

We demand transparency and accountability in all government actions, particularly those that impact the representation and empowerment of our local communities in Plateau State.Furthermore, we call upon the federal government to carefully consider the implications of its appointments on regional balance, ethnic harmony, and national unity. Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity, and it is crucial that appointments are made in a such a manner that fosters national cohesion, reinforces inclusivity and ensures all citizens feel a sense of belonging.

As Plateau youths, we stand united in our advocacy for justice, inclusivity, and equitable representation for our people. We will diligently monitor the situation and engage relevant stakeholders to safeguard the best interests of Plateau State. We will ensure that our sons and daughters are given equal opportunities to serve in positions of leadership and influence, without any biases or conspiracies.

JUPTI Accuses Gov. Mutfwang Of Political Bias Over The Removal,Appointment Of Heads Of States Owns Tertiary Institutions,Calls For Reverse To Statue Quo.

By, giwa alex, Jos

Union under the aegis of  The Joint Union Of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI),has accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang of biasness with political colouration over the removal and appointments of the Chief Executives of Tertiary Institutions and cancellations of recruitment done by the last administration in October 2022.

As the Union called on the Government to sheath his sword and reverse to Statues quo as the steps taken by the governor to say the least potent danger to the educational system of the state as the Union will not fold it arm to allow the future of our children being toy with.

JUPTI give the directive in a press conference held by Joint Union Of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions held at the Nuj Secretariat Hill Station Junction Tuesday 13th February 2024.

According to the text of the conference read by it chairman , Comrade Sunoe Peter Longbaam flanked by other member of the Union’s Exco’s, use the fora to congratulate the Governor Caleb Mutfwang over his victory at the Supreme court.

We join all other citizens of the State to congratulate him and the Government, even though the Union

have earlier done that through the Head of Service. It is our hope that with the distraction that accompany legal tussles now put to rest, expecting good governance shall take the centre stage.

As they also used  the medium to commiserate with government and peace loving people of Plateau State over the recent genocidal attacks that lead to the destructions of lives and properties, the Unions join in condemning the dastardly act.

“We also wish to commend the efforts of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for the release of accreditation funds for some tertiary institutions”.

Also thank His Excellency for organizing a

Retreat/Workshop in consultation with Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) and Trade Union

Congress (TUC) in December, 2023 which acquainted the Union and Government officials on

how to relate and maintain industrial harmony, this kind gesture was the first of its kind since

the inception of the state.

However  called on the state government the Unions appeal for domestication of Polytechnic Act 2019,

implementation of N35,000 Wage Award and constitution of governing council which  they said is the best in our Tertiary Institutions with the mantra of

“THE TIME IS NOW” and “THE LAND IS GREEN”.

The union  however recall the Chief Executives of State Own Tertiary

Institutions were relieved of their appointments and the recruitment carried out in October, 2022

was also cancelled and new Heads of Tertiary Institutions were equally appointed on temporal

basis just a day after and without due regards to Edit establishing those institutions.

The Joint Union observed with concern the politicization of removal and appointment

of Chief Executives of Tertiary Institutions and outright cancellation of employment carried out

in October, 2022. It is in the light of the above that we are compelled today to call for this press

conference to address, inform and educate you on the danger and negative precedents the action

of government will create in the nearest future.

The text further read Removal and Appointment of Chief Executive of Tertiary Institutions:

The position of the Chief Executives of these Intuitions; Plateau State University, Bokkos, Plateau

State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, College of Education, Gindiri, College of Health

Technology Pankshin and College of Health Technology, Zawan were advertised,

interview was conducted and they were found appointment.

Their appointments were in

accordance with the Edicts and Laws that established these Institutions. We wander

which criteria was used to remove the Heads of the tertiary institutions? The removal of

these officers was not in line with the extant laws governing the institutions.

With this development the union is shocked with the development especially knowing fully well

that, not long our dear government is a beneficiary of law and justice. We are afraid,

these act might be counter productive with gross and unimaginable consequence in the

accreditation of our academic programs.

As if the damage done with the removals was

not enough, again without minding the position of the Edit, we were again confronted

with what the government term ” Temporary appointment” even where exists Deputy

and which by law should rightly be given such position.

We asked again gentlemen of

the press, how can we have Temporary heads of tertiaries institutions where there exists

deputy(s)? This is in total disregard to the Laws guiding the operation of these

institutions.

This is a serious setback in our quest for a better Educational system in the

state. We are really worried about the future of our tertiary Education, this same

government set up visitation panels to these institutions, where are the reports? This is

very unfortunate and the Unions totally found this condemnable. We demand that

Government should re-visit its action for the sake of industrial harmony.

Cancellation of Employment done in October, 2022:

The issue of employment was a

product of agreement reached with Government leading to the recruitment of staff in

October, 2022. This was to bridge the gap in manpower of the tertiary Institutions, but

in June, 2023 the newly employed staff were suspended by the Government and we

acknowledge the intention of Government to verify and review the entire process and a

committee was eventually constituted to review the process and we equally applauded

the effort of the Government to sanitize the recruitment exercise. The report of the

committee was released and immediately another committee was again constituted to

look into the report and Government white paper was publicly released for

implementation.

The white paper report was very explicit which did not cancel the

employment done in tertiary institutions rather recommended that Governing Council be

constituted with the view to implement the white paper report but was delayed for some

reasons not known until the outright cancellation.

This action will definitely constitute a

setback in our tertiary institutions. It is sad that it is the educational sector that Government chose to politicize when we expect pro-activeness in the educational sector.

This action is painful and should be noted that any Government toying with education is

destroying the future generation. The Union believe that Government is aware that this

recruitment was timely and long overdue and some little procedural lapses should not be

used to unjustly destroy the system. The Union wish to encourage that anything worth

doing well should be done for a permanent solution and not temporal. Government

should note that these institutions have already suffered negligence in the past for too

long and not again this time. Our staff have been overwhelmed with overstressed

schedules of duty.

Called on the Governor Mutfwang to have rethink an reverse to status quo to avoid it negative effects on educational system in plateau state , and the general welfare of the affected sack staff.

“We wish to request that Government should have a rethink and isolate candidates with

questionable issues and reinstate the staff who are qualified and especially those cleared by

successive committees in the interest of industrial harmony.

In conclusion, gentlemen of the press, we are appealing to the members of the public and

well-meaning Plateau people, to please intervene for this newly employed staff to be reinstated

for the benefit of the students, the system and the progress of our dear State.”

Benue Under Siege As Herdsmen Over- Runs Agatu,Otukpo And annihilates Over 500

Our Reporter

Benue State, the nation’s food basket, is trapped in an endless crisis.

Residents of over 200 villages now find themselves targeted on a daily basis by heavily armed herdsmen, reportedly cloaked in military camouflage.

DAILY POST gathered that over the past three months, the toll has been staggering, with over 500 lives allegedly lost within three local government areas in Benue South Senatorial District, known as Idoma land.

Villages in Otukpo, Apa and Agatu LGAs are bearing the brunt, with reports of marauders butchering several locals, leaving many homes completely burnt down and numerous residents still missing.

The perpetrators, however, remain elusive, with no one claiming responsibility for the heinous attacks, though locals point fingers at ‘Fulani herdsmen.’

Bloodbath returns to Agatu

Agatu, which enjoyed relative peace in recent years, has once again been visited with bloodbath, extending to neighbouring communities and local government areas like Apa and Otukpo.

The latest wave of violence that ravaged Agatu, left communities like Ogwumogbo, Ikpele, Ejima, Okokolo, Olegomakwu, Olegonyilo, Nahem, Ocholonya, Abugbe, Ugboju, Odugbeho and Olegobidu decimated, with numerous lives lost.

What started as a mere flicker of unrest in Agatu has now erupted into a full-blown war, spreading to villages like Umogidi and Entekpa areas of Adoka in Otukpo.

Idoma youths face armed men with limited resources

A local source revealed that over 700 armed men have surrounded Otukpo, Apa and Agatu villages with no security personnel in sight to challenge them at the moment.

Despite the valiant efforts of Idoma youths from Ohimini who volunteered to defend their ancestral homes, they are faced with formidable adversaries armed with highly sophisticated weapons like MG3, Heckler & Koch G3, AK47 and other dangerous arms.

Villagers have also continued to bemoan the scarcity of security personnel in the affected areas.

A local vigilante, who refused to be named, recounted a recent encounter with security personnel, who rather than offering protection, warned against any retaliatory actions.

He told our reporter, “We, the youths from Ohimini and Ugboju, came here to help our brothers and sisters, but things turned out really tough.

“The security people who were supposed to protect us didn’t do a good job.

“When we got here, one of them warned us that if we shoot without caution, they would take away our guns.

“We only have dane guns, also called ‘shakabula’, with 10 rounds of ammunition.

“But when we went into the forest, things were much harder than we thought. The enemies we faced were too difficult to handle, and we had to retreat.”

In a widely circulated video obtained by our reporter, one of the volunteers currently on the battlefield revealed what the villagers were going through.

According to him, the attackers seem to be on a mission to erase the Idoma community from the map of Nigeria.

“We’re about 50 youths from the neighbouring communities, and when we arrived here, the situation was way beyond our expectations. Facing these people with our dane guns is a suicide mission.

“They are fully clad in military uniforms. Unfortunately, we fell into their ambush, and they killed four of us.

“Currently, we are trying to retrieve the bodies from the bush to prevent them from decaying, but we no longer have ammunition. These attackers shoot on sight.

“We urge the government to come to our aid. Idoma leaders, please help us.

“We are under siege, our land is under attack, and they are slaughtering us like chickens.

“Without any provocation, they unleash gunfire on anyone in their line of sight. Our land is besieged, and we’re left bewildered about what led to this,” he lamented.

The military has also not been spared from the ongoing onslaught.

Just last week, Operation Whirl Stroke suffered a significant blow after losing three of its members in a coordinated attack perpetrated by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Agatu.

In a detailed account of the invasion by the marauding herders and the huge cost paid by his troops to secure Agatu, the OPWS Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Sunday Igbinomwanhia, explained that his troops deployed to the Agwu community reacted following the huge number of people fleeing the Okokolo community penultimate Thursday.

According to him, “On inquiry, the troops were informed that terrorists suspected to be armed herdsmen were advancing towards the town to attack it.

“The troops immediately mobilised and proceeded to the community, which is about 15 kilometres from their base.

“The success achieved was, however, at a huge cost, with three of the troops paying the supreme sacrifice to prevent the killing of the inhabitants of Okokolo and the intended sacking of the community.”

A helpless state

The community volunteer guards, established in August 2022 under the leadership of former governor Samuel Ortom to enhance community security, find themselves grappling with helplessness in the face of the escalating war.

A member of the guard, who expressed dissatisfaction, pointed out that the current government is not giving them the necessary support and attention they need.

According to the guard member, Governor Hyacinth Alia should set aside politics and come to the rescue of his people.

He pleaded, “This is not the time for politics. The governor is not really giving us the attention and the necessary support. We expected him to do more because this fight is beyond the police or army alone.

“We are residents of these communities. We know all the corners and can contribute in our own small way to support the other security agencies.

“If this continues, one day, you might wake up to find that Idoma land has been taken over by Fulani herdsmen.”

Worried over the worsening situation, the senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Patrick Moro last week moved a motion on persistent attacks on Benue South communities and called on the senate for quick intervention.

Senator Moro, in his motion decried the persistent attacks on his constituents by armed men suspected to be bandits and without a single arrest by security operatives.

He mentioned the Thursday, January 18, 2024 unprovoked and ruthless attack on Okokolo, Abuge and Ocholonya communities of Agatu Local Government Area, which left in its wake loss of many lives and wanton destruction of several means of livelihood worth hundreds of millions of naira.

Meanwhile, the Idoma Association USA, a socio-cultural organization, has strongly criticized both the state and the federal governments for standing by idly as Idoma land faces turmoil.

During a news conference held recently, the president of the group, Edwin Ochai, called upon the leaders of Idoma land to resist and confront what he described as a war of attrition going on in Benue.

He said, “It is unacceptable that our people are left defenseless, homes destroyed, and farm produce decimated.

“We implore the Federal Government of Nigeria to step in promptly and take decisive action to bring an end to these heartless attacks that have turned our land into a killing field.

“The safety and well-being of our fellow Idoma citizens must be prioritized, and justice must prevail.

“We urge our members to raise awareness, mobilize resources, and engage in advocacy efforts to ensure that the voices of the victims are heard and that lasting solutions are implemented.”

Meanwhile, while reacting to the claim that the security men are not on ground, OPWS Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Sunday Igbinomwanhia, said an operation was already underway to track the marauders.

He said the OPWS will carry out its mandate as directed by the Chief of Defence Staff to ensure the security of lives and properties in the Force Joint Operations Area
