It is not a good time for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, as the slated Governorship and State House of Assembly elections approaches, since, the Youth Movements in the state have not changed their stand of removing and replacing the Old Order.
You would recall that, the youths across the country have lamented the high rate of unemployment, security brutality and poverty.
They have expressed this anger over the poor and unworkable situation of things in the country in their various protests in which they had also recorded deaths among their folds.
In a press statement by a group, under the auspacies of “The Movement For Youth Security”, signed by its Protem Chairman, Mr. Isaac Mann, dated 13th March 2023, made available to Gnews , the group has vowed not to go outside its established aim of causing the change of the Old Order and entrenching a new order and leadership style in Plateau State and the country at large.
According to the statement, “Our fellow youths have paid the supreme price for this cause and we cannot disrespect their sacrifices. We are now more determined to cause the change and remove the old order in Plateau State like our fellow youths are also determined to do in other states.
“We have backed the Labour Party as the third force and platform to cause this expected change and we are not backing out no matter the campaign and vote buying plans.
“We have directed our members and other affiliates to remain focused as #Endsars would be a joke if attempts as put in place to rig the 11th March, 2023 elections”.
The movement has also called on its fellow youths to vote for the Labour Party (Dr. Dakum/Pwajok SAN) in Plateau State.
With the governship election just few days away , March 18th 2023 to be precise there is culpable “High Fever” gripping the self acclaimed opposition in the political history of Nigeria political player People Democratic Party (PDP),and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) without diagnosed symptoms.
As the running mate of the Labour Party LP, who is legal luminary Edward Pwajok (SAN),has decide to break the long maintained silence over the legal tussles surrounding the qualification of PDP candidates from the governorship to the House of Assembly and the issues within the APC as the party tries to fool the electorate over youth related issues in the state.
This medium gathered that, the APC in an attempt to stop Pwajok (SAN) from speaking out to the general public, the party is making frantic efforts to buy up all available air spaces in media houses operating in the state since last week.
It was also gathered that, the PDP is deadly worried that an explanation from Pwajok (SAN) concerning the qualification of its candidate in the forthcoming elections, slated by INEC for 18th March, 2023, may greatly affect the party.
However, for the Obidients in the state, the breaking of silence by E. D. Pwajok (SAN) is a welcome idea that has over stayed.
You would recall that the PDP and the APC at several fora have continued to tell the people of Plateau State that, they are in alliance with the Labour Party (LP).
The two parties have also coined out slogans to show that they are with the Youth Movement in the state.
You would recall that, the youths in Plateau State, as a “New Generation Platform” came to be, owing to observed bad governance, security brutality, among other unpopular polices of government at both the state and federal levels.
This anger of the youths gave birth to the #Endsars Movement across the country, Plateau State inclusive that further recorder killings of innocent youthful protesters.
You would also recall that, it was this protest and movement of the youths that led to the support for the Labour Party (LP) as an “Alternative Force”, aimed at uprooting the ancient political parties (APC/PDP).
The legal team for the Labour Party has arrived at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abuja to look through materials following its displeasure with the results of the recently ended presidential election.
According to Channels TV, the team is currently meeting with commission representatives.
The purpose of the meeting with INEC officials, which is taking place at the Commission’s national headquarters, is to start the process of inspecting the voting equipment used in the presidential election on February 25.
Dr. Livy Uzoukwu served as the team’s leader and about 60 attorneys were on it. After the meeting, they are anticipated to brief the media.
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, on Monday replied to the recent comments by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the victory of Bola Tinubu at the just-concluded presidential election, should be accepted as the will of God.
Recall wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, last week described the victory of APC’s Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential poll as the will of God.
“Regardless of our interests and diversity, we should all accept it as the will of Almighty God; we wouldn’t have done it without his grace.
“It is a victory for all Nigerians. I am optimistic that the President-Elect will not betray the trust and confidence that Nigerians reposed in him. It is now time to move on and focus on the path of `a renewed hope’ for Nigerianwomen and youths,” she said.
But reacting in a post-election interview with Arise Television, Obi faulted the First Lady’s comment saying God’s wish is doing the right things and not vice-versa.
When asked if he would accept Tinubu’s victory as the wish of God as some religious leaders rightly claimed, he emphatically answered; “What they are actually preaching is the problem of Nigeria. The problem of Nigeria is accepting wrongdoing and what is unacceptable. That is using God’s name in vain. That is not what God is saying. God said do not use my name in vain.
“So, what they are saying is not God’s wish, it is not God’s plan for Nigeria.”
The electoral commission, INEC, had declared Bola Tinubu, as the winner of the Saturday, February 25 presidential election.
Mr Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the election. He scored a total of 8,794,726 votes, the highest of all the candidates, thus meeting the first constitutional requirement to be declared the winner.
He also scored over 25 percent of the votes cast in 30 states, more than the 24 states constitutionally required.
However, Peter Obi of LP and his PDP counterpart have since taken the case to the Presidential Tribunal challenging the process that declared Tinubu as the winner of the poll.
The Governor of Anambra State, Prof Charles Soludo confirmed on Monday that the Central Bank of Nigeria has asked commercial banks to dispense and accept old naira notes as deposits.
Soludo, a former CBN governor, made this known in a statement he posted on his social media handles.
He explained that the Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele gave the directive at a Banker’s Committee meeting on Sunday.
He added that Emefiele personally confirmed the directive to him.
According to him, residents should report banks refusing to accept the old notes.
“Commercial banks have been directed by the Central Bank to dispense old currency notes and also to receive the same deposits from customers. Tellers at commercial banks are to generate the codes for deposits, and there is no limit to the number of times an individual or company can make deposits.
“The Governor of the CBN gave the directive at a Bankers’ Committee meeting held on Sunday, 12th March 2023. The Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, personally confirmed the above to me during a phone conversation on Sunday night. Residents of Anambra are therefore advised to freely accept and transact their businesses with the old currency notes (N200, N500; and N1,000) and the new notes”, the statement contained.
The intensive anti human policy of president Buhari using his stooge the Central Bank Governor (CBN), Godwin Emenfele to achieve the anti people Policy under money redesign which has plunge the whole country into naira crisis has taken a frightening dimensions.
This as the harsh Policy that has make the naira notes in the country become scarce commodity to come by , where it really available, Money is use to purchase the few naira reprinted by Mr President and his accomplish Emenfele.
Journalist falls victim of naira redesigned
As popular journalist who is presenter with Ibadan-based private radio station, Fresh FM, popularly known as Baba Bimtinlaye or Baba Bimtin has died after he slumped on his way to radio station during long trekking from his house to his program on Saturday morning for lack of money to board taxi cab to the office because of naira crunch. His death was announced during a radio program by the ace radio twins, Komolafe Olaiya and Olalomi Amole, Oyin Ado.
Baba Bimtin reportedly died while trekking from Amuloko to Fresh FM at Challenge, with the hope of getting Point of Sale, POS agent to get cash for his transportation.
In an audio played on the radio, a man said they found him slumped on his way to the office and rushed him to the University Colleage Hospital, UCH, but died on getting to the hospital.
It has become necessary for me to write this letter. I am not a politician neither do I have any interest in partisan politics but your excesses within the Plateau political space have become one too many and you should be called to order.
I read with great dismay the pieces you wrote about the Distinguished Elder Statesman, Da Jonah David Jang. My dismay stems not only from the disrespect you threw at the feet of the Elder Statesman but also from your poor and abysmal writing and honestly, if that was an English Examination and I am an Examiner, you would have barely scored a pass mark. If you are going to write anything about Da Jonah Jang, the least you can do is write properly but then I digress because I am not here to talk about your writing skill because we all know that you do not have any.
It is amazing to me that you think that your warped opinion of who Jonah Jang is and what he has contributed to the growth and development of the Plateau people counts in any way.
A young and enthusiastic warrior should not forget the warriors that fought the battles that preserved the land which he today fights on.
Any attempt to diminish what the Elder Statesman has done for Plateau and it’s people by anyone will reek of ignorance and ingratitude.
The Elder Statesman is not a perfect man or Politician, we all know there is no such thing, as such, he is not without his own flaws, but to shamelessly attempt to drag his name into the mud will be met by stiff resistance by true sons of Plateau.
Every true child of Plateau who has any memory of any sort will bear witness that no politician of our time has proven his undying love and loyalty to Plateau and it’s people like Dara and it is as a matter of fact insulting that you will compare his achievements to the calamity that Lalong and the APC led government on the Plateau are.
Prior to Baba Jang, any good infrastructure was only a dream to the common plateau man and it is because of him that the common plateau man knows what an overhead bridge looks like, he started ASTC to improve agriculture on the Plateau and it functioned very well until Lalong came and put and end to it. How about Operation Rainbow that he started to secure Plateau State and protect us from terrorists? the same Lalong brought that to a standstill and one is tempted to ask the question, is APC an enemy of good things?
Plateau has her enemies and we know how Baba Jang has fought Tooth and Nail to protect our dignity as a people and here you are attempting to smear excrement on his legacy. Even the people you attempt to impress will dare not speak in such a manner about him.
Mado, you lack the credibility, Sanity, wisdom and pedigree to make any assertions about the person of Da Jonah David Jang and his achievements.
What are your achievements as a young person on the Plateau? I see young Plateau men and women doing exploits in Tech, agriculture, social welfare, Social Entrepreneurship, Sports, Entertainment etc and yet you have nothing to show for all the noise that you make.
Sometimes, I wonder why you are ever in conversation when it comes to politics, oh I see why. You have a knack for getting involved in controversy and you enjoy the attention, you make the mistake of assuming that all publicity is good publicity and you don’t realise how your actions and speech taint your image.
I cannot forget your very vocal support for the governments that have brought us light-years backwards as a nation and a state and you think that anything you have to say holds any credibility?
What exactly is your political achievement on the Plateau?
You only design posters for political positions which you never are able to buy a form for.
Let me ask you a question, have you ever bought any form to contest for a political office, even for SUG?
Just a few weeks back, you were being dragged online for failing to meet up with an agreed deadline for a graphic design Job and failing to refund a meagre Three thousand Naira until the matter was brought to the social media Judiciary and you have the effrontery to cast aspersions on the distinguished Elder Statesman.
Mado, you have become a joke in the Plateau political space, a bad joke told too often for that matter and you need to begin working very hard to redeem your image, this will be a very daunting task but i assure you it is not impossible.
I will advise that you take a break from anything politics, figure yourself out and what you want to achieve, decide what direction your Political moral compass will face and march in that direction unapologetically, decide wether or not your allegiance is to Plateau and when you have done that, you may return with some self respect and dignity to contribute whatever you can to Politics on the Plateau but for now, please stay silent and save what little dignity you have left. I sincerely hope that you will receive this in good fate. Peace and Love.
The Nigerians Union of Journalists has decried the contained silence of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),over the use of the old notes after the Apex Court ruling.
The Union under Abia State Chapter has expressed concern over the failure of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to issue a categorical statement on the use or otherwise of old naira notes in response to the Supreme Court judgement.
The NUJ made its position known through a communique it issued at the end of its monthly congress held at NUJ press centre, Umuahia.
The communique, which was signed by the Chairman of NUJ in Abia, Comrade Victor Ndukwe, the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Adaeze Ralph Igbokwe, and other communique drafting committee members, noted that the refusal by the CBN to take a position after the Supreme Court ruling was affecting the lives of Abia residents.
It added that the ugly situation was increasing the hardship being experienced by bank customers and also affecting the general well-being of Abians.
The council urged the CBN to, without further delay, issue an official and categorical statement on the co-existence of old N1000 and N500 with the newly introduced denominations of N1000 and N500, as doing so would save Abians from further suffering.
The communique went further:
“Congress urges Abia State Government to adhere strictly to the terms of agreement it reached lately with the organized Labour with regard to defraying the arrears of salaries and pensions owed civil servants and pensioners in order to improve their welfare.
“Congress also calls on the state and the federal governments to pragmatically address the lingering scarcity and hike in price of petroleum products which inflicted further economic hardship on Nigerians as they are responsible for the galloping inflation in the country.”
The postponed House of Assembly polls is even looking more interesting compared to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, with the ill-craft narratives against the former governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who doubles as the ex-protége of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
So much tribal commentaries have been thrown up just to decimate the person of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Point of correction, I haven’t always been a fan of Oshiomhole but the recent attacks against him has completely drawn me closer to his personality.
Many of you know that during his time as Governor of Edo state, I was one of his staunch critic but I must commend him for one thing, If Oshiomhole decides to stand by you in achieving a particular course, he ensures it’s pursued to it’s logical conclusion even if he fails!
This brings me to Oshiomhole doing all in his power to enthrone Godwin Obaseki from nowhere as Governor of Edo state, which to me remains his greatest undoing politically!
Without shame, Obaseki decided to reduce Oshiomhole to nothing, sponsoring his removal as National Chairman of APC through the absconded Oshawo amongst others.
But still I would want to delve into the just concluded polls held on the 25th of February, 2023.
Spineless Obaseki, his Deputy governor and other principal officials of this government all lost their units, wards and local government areas but can you say same about Comrade Adams Oshiomhole? The answer is a Capital NO!
Even the Governor couldn’t maintain the tradition of the PDP since 1999 by winning Edo, the Senate seats in Edo South and Central and getting most HoR seats from his backyard (Edo South), doesn’t this illustrate the fact that Obaseki has fallen like the biblical king Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 4:28-37)?
The consistent goodwill Oshiomhole enjoys today is as a result of his doings as Governor of Edo state.
The truth remains that when we as humans are opportune to hold elective positions of trust on behalf of our people we MUST be totally magnanimous in our performance/actions while occupying that particular position, we must ultimately justify that trust by ensuring that our achievements speaks volume.
Juxtaposing, Obaseki who currently is the governor with his estranged godfather Oshiomhole who was the immediate past governor, can you actually measure the goodwill these persons enjoy today?
There is no where Oshiomhole enters prepared or unprepared today that wouldn’t erupt jubilation and joy in the innermost hearts of the people compared to the other who gets bullied and embarrassed all times at his slightest appearance with the people. Reason am!
It is because of Oshiomhole’s increasing popularity with the people not as the current but the past governor that has rattled Obaseki’s camp, giving them sleepless nights, making them compose very comical press statements like the false allegations of impeachment, rigging, meeting thugs, returning Agberos while deploying their copy and paste Kommandos who are just mere pawns to push such empty and noxious tales just to indict and rubbish a man who is enveloped by his people’s love.
Ask yourself why Oshiomhole political dynasty in Edo North has continued to gain grounds, displacing even his “Bolanle” deputy governor who lost his unit during the Presidential and National Assembly polls. Why did Oshiomhole clinch the Senatorial seat without sweating?
I believe your guess is as good as mine!
His performance, Oshiomhole might not be a perfect but he distinguished himself while in office.
Can we also say that the performance of the current governor can make him create same feat politically by building a political fortress in Edo South come March 18th? Can Obaseki replicate what Oshiomhole is currently doing in Edo North?
Succinctly speaking, It’s Oshiomhole’s grace that will pave way for the entire House of Assembly seats in Edo North senatorial district to be clinched by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Can same be said in Edo South for Obaseki even as a seating Governor?
Again can Obaseki replicate this in his own backyard?
Will going out to beg for support for his deserted HoA candidates, few weeks to election guarantee their victory?
One would have thought that by now, Obaseki performance in his almost 6 and half years in office, will imprint his name in the hearts of Edo people without BEGGING and KNEELING.
E no suppose dey beg by now, haba!
But guess what, his frequent and unyielding political fights with those who helped him to power, brazen demolition and take over of his people’s property, his anti-people policies, penchant for disrespecting the sacred traditional institution, his cosmetics and substandard projects spread across the state, running the state without a functional House of Assembly for 3 years now and refusing to conduct Local government election remains his greatest albatross which has pitched him against his people.
The toxic narrative, propaganda, creepy and usual sympathetic strategy to gain undue support from Edo people against Oshiomhole isn’t working for Obaseki and his goons – trying to deceive the people with his accustomed blackmailing rhetorics wouldn’t work this time because our people don wise!
It’s time up!
Dear Mr. Governor, allow your ACHIEVEMENTS speak for you, not your BEGGING or KNEELING!
News just filtering in said the judge that on Peter Obi’s Case Honorable Justice Joseph Shagbaor Ikyegh on the LP/PDP suit to inspect INEC’s BVAS machines has been transferred to the Port Harcourt Division of Nigeria’s Appeal Court.
The sudden transfer of Justice Ikyegh which leaves much to be desired as he is already the Presiding Justice of the PH Division of Nigeria’s Appellate Court.
The bar and the bench are both literally and metaphorically aggrieved over the recent manner the presidential election was conducted by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),under the leadership of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu that bring democracy in Nigeria to disrepute among Community of Nation.
This is obvious in the way, and manner the Legal luminaries with the highest title in legal practice, Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN), earlier engaged by the Party President elect, Asiwaju BolaTinubu to defend his victory at the election tribunal which the president elect is definitely going to face considering the shabby election conducted by the electoral umpire INEC.
Jubrin Samuel Okutepa SAN, the senior advocate of Nigeria, from IDAH Kogi state has just been reported to have rejected the appointment as one of the legal advocate for defending Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu mandate of APC’s at the election tribunal for his crooked president elect 2023.
The rejection of Jubrin Samuel Okutepa is coming a day another legal Luminary Paus Akubo (SAN),Jos based legal practioner from Kogi State also refused the offer for representation on the ground that he was not consulted before his name was dragged in as one of the legal Representatives.
Jubrin give reason for his withdrawal on the ground of Old age to build on corruption for our children yet unborn as a nation. “Mari ajeh Mari Akò” every thing is not by money. he said .
A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) under the aegis of Democracy Protection Coalition (DPC), has called on the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, to resign from his position with immediate effect.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the convener of the group, Eze Eluchie, said Yakubu must resign over his failure to deliver free, fair and credible election during the presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday, February 25.
He said, “Considering that people’s confidence, trust and belief in the electoral system and electoral umpire is an integral component of elections and that such confidence, trust and belief in INEC and it’s current chairman, having been irrevocably eroded, the INEC chairman, Prof Yakubu should immediately resign his position as chairman of INEC.
“To avoid further tainting of the sanctity and integrity of the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections, Mr Mahmood Yakubu should totally forthwith recuse himself from participating in any manner whatsoever in the process and administration of the forthcoming elections.”
INEC Postpone Governship/House of Assembly Election To 18th March.
By, giwa alex, Jos
The Postponement of the election according to the commission electoral umpire Professor Mahmoud Yakubu is contained in a press conference held in Abuja few hours ago citing logistics and others for the Postponement.
It would be recalled that the governship/House of Assembly election was earlier billed to be held 11th March 2023 across the States.
Former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Plateau State, Comrade Danladi Jimoh has raised alarm as prisoners are currently dieing in prison as a result of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) bad and satanic policies, described as miserable and despicable, the untold hardship the APC government under Governor Simon Lalong has inflicted on pensioners in the state.
He noted as dishonorable, the deliberate refusal of the Lalong administration to review upward, the N5,000 stipends paid monthly to hundreds of pensioners in the state to enable them meet up with the market reality in the country.
Jimoh disclosed this on Tuesday during an interaction with Journalists in Jos, and said the PDP administration of former Governor Jonah David Jang which is being criticize by the APC is far better than Lalong’s administration which lack human sympathy in terms of payment of gratuity after retirement from service.
He explained that most pensioners in the state have died of hunger and heart failure over lack of gratuity while the N5,000 monthly pension is not realistic with the current economic turbulence in the country.
Jimoh who retired from the Ministry of Water Resources in 2001, was elected by his colleagues in 2004 as chairman of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, said he personally submitted a request for the upward review of pension and harmonization in the state to Governor Lalong in 2016, but nothing has been done till now.
He explained that 70 percent of pensioners in Plateau State are collecting N5,140 monthly as pension, which he said is nothing compared to the current economic reality.
“To be very honest with you, we really enjoy the PDP Government under Jonah David Jang, he actually took care of pensioners. He was approving N130 million monthly to clear arrears of gratuity, and he was releasing this money on monthly basis.
“Being the Chairman of the Union then, we pressurized him to attend to our needs and he was forthcoming in terms of addressing our plights. We were negotiating on the need for harmonization and upward review of pension until his tenure came to an end.
“But when the APC government came in, I personally presented the paper to Governor Lalong but up-to-date, he has not done anything about it. This has led to the death of our members on daily basis because somebody will retire for years without gratuity.
“When you talk, they will say pensioners are being paid monthly and how much are they paying? Do you believe that majority of pensioners are still receiving N5,140 monthly? What can that do in the present day economic reality.
“Most of these pensioners have families of 5, 10 and 15 people, what will N5,000 buy for such families? I expected the Governor to review upward this pension out of sympathy but he did not.” He stated.
Jimoh alleged that gratuity of retirees is being paid based on loyalty to the APC and who you know in the current government, saying the dubious practice contravenes the civil service rule.
He called on retirees in Plateau State to work in unison ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, to bring back PDP to power in the interest of the progress of Plateau, and to the benefit of pensioners and civil servants.
The embattled former candidate of labour Party Ambassador Yohanna Margif has said those behind the crisis in the party are People Democratic party (APC) and (PDP).
Margif who contested labour Party primary election said contrary to the speculation that he is running for the position of governorship under labour Party is not true, that the rumour is the hand work of PDP and APC who are afraid of Governorship contest with the party in the state for fear of being defeated.
Ambassador Margif clarification is contained in press Statement dated 5th March 2023 personally signed by him and made available to journalists in plateau state .
He further said this clarification is imperative because silence is consent so he has to come out to laid to rest the numerous lies peddling against my person by APC and PDP to destabilize the cooperate existence in the party for their self interest.
He denied issuing any statement where he said they should not vote for the Governship Candidate of the party Professor Patrick Dakum/Edward Pwajok called on the people of Plateau to come out en-masse and vote for Dakum/Edward ticket, as he is not the legitimate candidate of the LP since the court has since recognised Dr Patrick Sunday Dakum and Hon Edward Pwajok SAN ,as the authentic LP Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates.
He equally pointed out that his Director General of Campaign has since stated the position of his group to totally collapse the structure of Margif into that of Dakum-Pwajok in the interest of peace and the success of the LP to provide good governance in line with the consumption to productive mantra of Peter Obi/Datti Ahmed.
Angry with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) electronic rats (E- Rats) who are always using his name to score cheap political goals to desist or else, they will be taken to court.
Margif said he is tired of being used as the fall guy in Plateau politics and wants to have his peace instead of running from pillar to post.
Margif equally denied taking the LP matter to supreme court but that the members of Lalong Government who are feeding fat on the issue.
On the March 11th Governorship and State House of Assembly elections, Margif calls on all people of good conscience in Plateau State to come out in their numbers and vote for only LP candidates so that Peter Obi/Ahmed Datti will succeed when eventually they retrieve their stolen mandate from the court considering the revelation of large scale fraud by the APC in the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
Amb Margif urged all to totally and utterly disregard any bogus press statement purported to emanate from him until it Is personally signed by him with a video message in that direction to avoid deception by the PDP and APC.
